40th Annual Show Special Events and Displays
In celebration of our 40th show we have planned several special displays and exhibits. We are pleased to announce the following are scheduled to be present at the show:
The Warther Museum from Dover, OH will be showing an one-of-a-kind, hand carved locomotive, The Empire State Express 999. Engine 999 set a world record when it pulled The Empire State Express at 112.5 MPH on May 10, 1893. Ernest "Moody" Warther was a wood carver without equal. As a hobby he made models of locomotives and trains from exotic woods and other materials. The 999 was carved from wood and ivory. We feel very honored that the museum is permitting this off site display of this priceless piece of history. You can learn more about this amazing man and his work by visiting museum's web page Warthers.com. If in the Dover, OH area, south of Canton,OH, a stop at the museum is well worth the time. Check the website for operating hours and directions.
If you have been a model railroader for any length of time the above herald(logo) will be known to you. The Virginian and Ohio Railroad was created by W. Allen McClelland, a pioneer in railroad modelling. Allen proscribed that our layouts should more closely follow the practices of the prototype railroads. That is, the trains should have a purpose, not to simply run in a circle. At the show there will be a display on the V&O . The Miami Valley Modular Railroad will be running a special V&O train on their layout. Allen will be available to sign copies of his book The V&O Story.
Lone Eagle Payne was a founding member of the Mid-Central Region(MCR) of the NMRA and of Division 3"Miami Valley" of the MCR. The Greene County Historical Society will be displaying Lone Eagle's conductor uniform and a narrative of his contributions to our hobby will be displayed.
Each year at the start of National Model Railroad Month, "Miami Valley" Division 3, MCR, of the National Model Railroad Association sponsors the Dayton Train Show. The 2014 Dayton Train Show had close to 5000 attendance and over 500 vendor tables. Now we turn to the 2015 Dayton Train Show, our 40th show!
There will be new and pre-owned locomotives, rolling stock, and structures in every scale from "G", "O", "S", "HO", "N", "Z", and some for "T" gauges. You will be able to find those small hobby tools you need, scenery making supplies, books on your favorite railroad. If you need it for your model railroad, it should be there.
We have one of the largest number of model railroad displays in the Midwest. with over 30 displays/exhibits. Model railroads will be operating in "G", "O", "S", "HO", "HOn3", "Z", "N" and the newest "T" ("T"iny). Railroad historical societies will be offering info about your favorite railroads of the past and present.
The Dayton Train Show occupies both the East Exhibit Hall and the Ball Arena of the Hara Arena facility, totaling over 59,000 square feet of show space. There will be demonstrations by some of the best modelers in the nation including hands-on experience by local modelers, who will be available for questions and advice. There is something for everyone. Layout photographs from our show appear on many model railroad websites.
