Welcome to the Dayton Train Show!

2009 Train Show is a Success!

The 2009 Dayton Train Show, which is one of the biggest train shows in Ohio, is now in the books. It was a great success with 78 vendors (362 tables) and 38 exhibits (go to Dealer &Exhibitor Info).

Matt Hewitt's BenchRidge Bench Work Systems had a great display of their On30 Benchridge Northern Railroad as it made its debut, as seen above. Their bench work system was a great hit. It was in 4 stages of completion showing the bare wooden bench system through to Matt's fantastic finish work. Matt helps you with design of your layout in the area of your home or business that you want it set up. Then he makes all of the bench work including risers and track bed. He then delivers it and sets up the bench work. Your job is to finish it your way, including track laying, wiring, and scenery of your choice.

The photo above shows a completed unit on display at the show. In the background to the left is the bench grid and riser system in open display. Check out their web sight at www.benchridge.com/.

All Aboard Ohio was there to answer questions about the new passenger rail system which they hope to bring to Ohio, including Dayton. It was their first such show they have attended and their booth was busy both days. They were quite happy with the show and they were the first exhibit to sign up for the 2010 show.

If you're looking to sell your old trains in the future, many dealers purchase train collections. Or you can buy your own table(s) at the 2010 show. Go to Publicity and Downloads and download a vendor registration form and return it with your payment.

We gave away 4 each Thomas the Tank Engine sets again this year. The winners were: Reilly Jayson of Dayton, OH., Mark Muleski of Lima, OH, Kenneth Schwastzkoof of Xenia, OH, and Ben Adams of Beavercreek, OH. (see photos below). We plan to give away 4 sets again in 2010. And we gave away about 30 door prizes donated by the dealers or Div. 3, NMRA.

There were about 60 Boy Scouts from various troops in the area present to earn their Model Railroad Merit Badge. Click HERE for a complete report on the 2009 Merit Badge Classes. If you are a Boy Scout or know one that wants to earn this merit badge next year, click HERE for information on the 2010 program. And, watch this site because they may have something for you next year!

Many new things and exhibits are planned for 2010, so make plans to come on out to Hara Arena, November 6 - 7, 2010. If you like trains at all, this is the show for you!
